The Chittagong Development Authority plans to construct a bay terminal in a tidally dependent area on Halishahar coast. For this, the process of acquiring 907 acres of land is going on. The length of the bay terminal will be 6.15 km and the width will be about 600 meters. The infrastructure of the bay terminal will be built on the raised seabed. Charti woke up after 1990. About 800 meters from the shore, the char has created a new channel. The port authorities want to construct the terminal in the channel created around the char. By dredging the channel, large mother vessels can be berthed, said the port officials.
All the jetties including New mooring Container Terminal of the port currently accommodate vessels with a maximum draft of 9.50 meters. The bay-terminal can accommodate ships of 10-12 meters draft. The port can accommodate a maximum of 1800 TEUS containers, while the bay terminal can accommodate up to 5000 TEUS containers.
